First Muscles
We finally tried the mussels from the inside of the Spit, and they were great. Why didn’t we try these earlier? Of course, cardboard would taste great with wine, garlic and butter.
Understanding our Ship’s Bell Clock
We’ve had a few house guests ask about our Ship’s Bell clock, and what the chimes mean. While the pattern is very simple once you see it laid out, it’s difficult to understand if you you have it explained. Envision you are working as crew on a ship. Someone needs to be awake 24×7, watching … Continue reading
New Porch on the Front
New Front Deck Our new Douglas Fir porch off the front is finished and looks great. All we need is the pergola above, and steps up to it. Right now it’s a bit up of a step up. Even Sapphire needs help getting up on it.
Getting the Sunfish Seaworthy
I didn’t thoroughly clean the sunfish last Fall, and left to sit over the winter, it needed some major polishing. Using a sander, I buffed off all the crud from last Fall, and patched and polished the bottom. This photo shows the polishing half done, giving a before-and-after feel. The sea is a dirty place…
The Way the Living Room Used to Look
I got this picture from a friend in the neighborhood that used to rent our house from the previous owners the Smiths. I believe this is his family sometime in the 70s. A lot has changed in our living room, including the walls are now whitewashed white, and the fireplace is much larger.
First Day at the Beach
The house is open, and the beach was calling on this 67F day in March. Even the CJ-3B started after it’s winter slumber without a fuss. The house survived unscathed, thanks to Derek, and cocktails have already started with the neighbors. Life is good at the beach. Very good.
Hawks in the Neighbor’s Yard
Kathy took this picture of a Red Tailed Hawk in our neighbor’s yard. While seeming innocuous, it quickly swooped down and ate a rabbit. If you have a miniature poodle, owner beware!
Up On The Roof
With the help of Derrick, our skilled and adventurous contractor, I scaled the roof, to see what a bird’s eye view would be. The view was as breathtaking as he promised, but I had to dig deep to find the courage to climb down the ladder. Going up seemed simple by comparison.
Dave Mows His First Lawn
Drawn to the Call of the Lawn, Dave bought a lawn mower and is attempting to do what every other red-blooded American male is comfortable with doing. So far, all appendages are intact, and he’s only run out of gas once.
A Fox Debates a Beach Excursion
A clever neighbor has decided our stairs to the beach make for each access. He’s been spotted a few times on our lawn, and today made his way onto the beach. Our property is full of rabbits, and my guess is he’s going in search of lunch.
