Bee Hive Unboxing

Posted by on May 25, 2012

My new toy has arrived, and is all shiny and new. By the June 13th, it should be full of 10,000 bees, happy pollenating flowers and plants within a two mile radius of the house, and storing up honey for the winter.

For those that haven’t heard, I’ve decided to keep a hive on the property. It’s an English Garden style hive that should hold from 10,000 to 60, 000 honey bees, depending on the time of the year. Honey bees are very gentile, so don’t worry about getting stung. When they fly out of the hive, they go up to about 12 feet and start their typical horizontal flight within two miles of the hive, so you won’t even notice them unless you watch their ascent/decent within about 10 feet of the hive.
